Capturing the Essence of Nature

Being surrounded by nature allows me to feel fully present. Photography workshops in New Mexico and Ireland gave me new perspectives on the world around me. Visiting places such as Chimney Rock Trail at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico and Arizona’s Horseshoe Bend has left lasting impressions on my work. I often pause to notice the light, color, and atmosphere in the sky above me. Through my creative process, I give others a glimpse of the unnoticed everyday beauty of life.

The Impact of Lighting

Light has the power to transform a scene. The way sunlight filters through trees or casts shadows on water creates a sense of magic. I focus on depicting how light interacts with the environment, using it to define form and atmosphere in my work.

The Energy of Color

Color is a vital part of my artistic expression, influencing mood and emotion in my work. Inspired by the vibrant hues of nature, from the deep blues of the ocean to the warm tones of sunsets, I explore how color shapes perception. Each palette I choose conveys the serenity I observe in my travels and everyday surroundings, inviting viewers into my colorful world.

Reflections

Reflections, particularly on water, add another layer of inspiration and complexity. I am fascinated by how they can change a scene. Water becomes both subject and mirror in many of my works.

The Power of Composition

Composition guides the viewer’s eye through the piece. I thoughtfully arrange elements in my photography and paintings to create balance, harmony, and movement.

Texture

Texture brings a tactile quality to my art, whether portraying the rough bark of trees or the smooth surface of water, adding richness and dimension to my paintings.

Architecture

I am drawn to architectural design — from the lines and shapes of buildings to the intricate details that bring structures to life. During my travels, places like Saint Fin Barre’s Church in Ireland and the colorful coastal buildings have sparked my creativity and continue to influence my work.

Relaxation in Everyday Moments

Spending time near the harbor, often at a cafe in Warren with my dog, Star, allows me to slow down and connect with my surroundings. I love watching clouds drift, noticing how the light shifts throughout the day, and observing birds in flight. The warmth of the sun on my skin, the waves rippling as boats pass through the harbor, and the ever-changing reflections on the water all remind me to pause and be present. In these peaceful moments, I recharge and gather new ideas for my art.

Wildlife

Wildlife like cormorants, owls, sparrows, sheep and more inspire much of my work. I’m drawn to showcasing their unique movements, expressions, and how they interact with their surroundings. My work reveals the bond between animals and their environments.

Finding Calmness by the Water

The harbor and ocean are my sanctuary, a place where I feel deeply connected to nature. Whether it’s the gentle ripple of water in Maine, the sight of sandpipers racing against the waves in Florida, or boats floating in the distance in Warren, these scenes bring me a sense of calm and inspiration. The cool water touching my feet and the breeze brushing across my face heighten my senses, grounding me in the present moment.
